I have noticed that one of my teeth has become loose, What should I do?

If you are an adult and notice a loose tooth, this is definitely something that should be of concern . Ideally you should see your dentist right away. When teeth become loose, that is evidence that there is a problem that should be addressed. It could require your dentist to  adjust your bite or fabricate a night guard to protect against grinding or bruxisim at night. It also could be symptomatic of a worse problem, such as a fractured tooth, failing root canal,a loose post and crown, an endodontic infection or periodontal involvement.

All of these problems should be diagnosed by your dentist during an exam. He or she can take radiographs , check your bite, use a periodontal probe and check the degree of mobility that your loose tooth has. Once a thorough examination has been performed appropriate treatment can be provided. While here are a number of possible causes, most dentists can ascertain the cause after an in person examination.

During this pandemic many of us have been staying at home and experiencing increased stress. I have observed an apparent increase in bruxism among my patients. This can lead to various tooth problems that can result in "loose teeth". Teeth can sustain fractures, posts can come loose and crowns and teeth can break as a result of the increased occlusal forces that are experienced during periods of increased bruxism.

Assuming that your dentist is open, your best bet is scheduling a visit to their office and have appropriate treatment rendered. Why wait for things to get worse? Seeing your dentist, even during this pandemic is safe assuming the proper precautions are being taken.

Most dental offices are prescreening patients over the phone, taking their temperatures when they arrive and have instituted increased infection control protocols that include ambient air management systems ( air purifiers, opening windows and using high speed air evacuation systems). Why wait until things worsen... Call your dentist and schedule an appointment.
