How long have you been blogging?

 I started the Ask Dr Spindel dental blog with 3 posts in 2005... so I have been blogging for twenty years. I started it as a demonstration of my writing skills. Several of my patients were involved in a start up called Ivillage that featured article that might interest woman readers. After publishing my first posts I forwarded the link to one of my patients who worked there. Unfortunately, soon after, he left his job and I was left with the blog that I didn't need. . Since it was hosted by Blogger for free (Thank you Google) I kept it active and used it as a source of possibly relevant dental information for my patients and the public.

Initially I started writing up my answers to frequently asked questions by my patients and eventually I pretty much answered all their questions (at least those that were suitable for publication) in the first three years. Now I just write about what ever I feel like discussing online or maybe an interest to dentists and the public. 

At the moment Ask Dr Spindel has been viewed over 3.2million times and it gets about 7,000 views every month which isn't that many considering viral videos get millions of view each month, but after twenty years and over 1000 posts.

I still write my posts without help from Chat GT and my writing has improved over the years. The blog has gotten plenty of attention, and is generally ranked among the top dental blogs. Probably years ago I should have switched to a video blog, and posted on YouTube, but I really am somewhat shy and don't enjoy watching myself on video.

The cost of a penny weight of pure palladium is $130.6. It used to be that palladium was added instead of gold to the precious metals often used for pfms, but now laboratories are finding that palladium is no longer affordable. The lab that I am using has just changed the formulation of the metal it's using to one that has more gold than palladium. I really do not mind, but metals with more gold are softer and often easier for a dentist to accidentally polish off delicate margins. Why is my denture loose???

Some Patients may  have shrinkage of their jaw bone(s) after the denture was inserted and experience lack of seal. While bone resorption may play a role, in my experience there are a number of other possible causes.  Uneven bite is at the top of my list. If a dentures occlusion is unbalanced, when a patient closes, their denture may loosen. Another common reason is that a patients muscle attachments are being impinged on. Muscle attachments are little bands of fibers that connect the cheeks, lips, and tongue to the jaws. Over and under extended dentures can also cause dentures to be more likely to come loose. Under extended dentures have less surface area to help develop the adhesion to help keep a denture in place. Over extended dentures tend get dislodged by patients facial muscle movement or opening and closing. Tongue Ties: What Parents Need to Know

For a long time, people just didn’t seem to know much about tongue ties. In the early years of my practice, few of my patients had ever heard of a tongue tie. When I pointed out that they or their children might be tongue tied, I was often the very first practitioner who’d mentioned it to them. When I told them that a tongue tie might actually be the root cause of their oral myofunctional issues, or even their sleep apnea , I’m sure that some of them thought I was crazy. But in the last few years, things have changed so much! Initially, there was a small increase in the number of patients who were contacting me specifically about tongue ties.
