Dental Info

 For years I have taught a simplified technique to dental students and residents for preparation of teeth for Zirconium crowns, using burs and diamonds commonly found in the NYUCD clinic or now at the Mountsinai General Practice Residency.  First we start by using a 330 carbide bur. This bur has a cutting length of between 1.5- 2 mm (depending on the brand). This bur is used to make depth cuts along the occlusal surface by scribing the surface using the full length of the bur. Afterwards green or black diamond football bur is used to perform the occlusal reduction. Then I use a one mm diamond to do reduction in the occlusal one Third of the tooth on the buccal and lingual of the tooth. Then a  # 012 or 014 diamond is used to create a shoulder or chamfer on the buccal and lingual of the tooth approximately .25 to .5 mm supragingivally,bringing the bur as far as possible into the mesial and distal embrasure without touching the adjacent tooth.  Yesterday was my last day working before my week off.  Our office will reopen Monday August 31rst. I am spending the next week in Woods Hole revisiting my old summer stomping grounds. This year I probably will enjoy life in the slow lane and decompress. Woods Hole was where my family spent entire summers when I was growing up. We had a small boat and I went fishing , played tennis , and probably spent too much time baking on the beach. This time I will be attending an old friends funeral, Paul Gross. Paul was a scientist, violinist, sailor and former director of the Marine Biology Laboratories in Woods Hole. My father  and Paul shared a lab summertimes with him when I was young.  They had a giant fish tanks with sea urchins and lobsters and the research they did allowed us to spend summers there.
