Dental Insurers paying dentists with credit card payments?

How greedy can insurers be? Not only do they want providers to accept deep discounts on their regular fees they want them to accept payments by credit cards that will result in dentists paying additional service fees to credit companies. Sometimes the efforts of dental insurance companies to save money can be discouraging to dentists who are trying to make ends meet.

We got just such a payment from Guardian today. Here is some good news. If an insurance company sends us a payment using a credit card we call them up and request that they pay by check instead ( at least for now). It does mean that we must not process the payment but instead wait until they issue a check. I asked my office manager to call Guardian up and request a check payment instead and they said they would comply with our request.

So if you are a dentist and get a credit card payment from your dental insurance company, feel free to say NO! Call them and ask them to send a check payment instead. Although not all of our problems are so easily solved, this one is as simple as asking for a check for their payments.
