How much should a good electric toothbrush cost?

Although it's possible to spend over $200 on the "best" model electric toothbrush, there really no need to spend that much to get your teeth clean. Yes , sleek models with blue tooth connectivity and multiple cleaning modes sound great, but actually the base rechargeable models perform excellently and can cost as little as $20. In fact I have been recommending the Oral B Vitality model to my patients for years and most of my patients are pleased with both its performance and cost. It clearly out performs all manual tooth brushes and is easy on the pocketbook.

Yes, over the years, I have tried some of the fancier models and they definitely have a "cool" factor, but most of their "extra" features actually seem gimmicky to me. That being the case some of us who like having the best may actually enjoy spending the extra dollars for a "professional model" and that's fine. These models work great, but remember, when it's time to replace them (nothing lasts forever) they are pricier and probably do not last any longer than a less expensive model.

My only bit of cautionary advice is to stay away from models with replaceable batteries, since these models tend to lack the power needed to compete with the rechargeable models. They may be even less expensive and look cute, but they are no bargain in the long run.
